If your checkout process was interrupted or your payment failed, follow these steps to diagnose and resolve the issue. A failed transaction often leaves partial data on your server, which can prevent future purchases until properly addressed. This guide covers common causes such as storage limits, payment declines, and technical glitches that stop the checkout flow midway through.
Who it's for
- Users who abandoned their cart during checkout
- Any customer seeing a payment timeout or error message
- Site administrators whose storefront checkout flow stopped mid-transaction
Steps
- Verify the transaction status – Check your order history for any pending or failed orders. Note the order ID, approximate amount, and the exact time the attempt ended. You can also review visitor access logs to see if payment issues are blocking public page views (visitors-cannot-open-your-public-page).
- Confirm storage availability – Ensure your account has sufficient HTMLPUT storage. If quota is full, complete the purchase immediately or upgrade your plan (see Upgrade or Change Your Storage Plan). Unavailable storage can block final payment processing.
- Validate payment details – Make sure your credit card or payment method is active and has sufficient funds. Expired cards, declined transactions, or insufficient balance are frequent culprits for checkout aborts.
- Inspect error messages – Review any alerts shown during the failed attempt. Common indicators include "insufficient storage," "payment declined," or "session timed out." Cross-reference these with your payment provider's notifications if applicable.
- Retry the purchase – Try completing the transaction again on a different browser or device to rule out local cache or extension interference.
- Contact support if needed – If the problem persists, gather your order ID and any error screenshots. Our team can investigate deeper and apply manual fixes if necessary.
Gotchas
- Running out of storage quota can halt payment processing entirely, even for valid transactions.
- Using an expired or invalid promotional code may trigger a checkout failure independent of actual payment issues.
- Large transactions exceeding session timeouts may leave the checkout state incomplete, requiring a new request.
