Cannot Generate Claim Codes: Quota, Listing, or Gate

If the claim code button is grayed out or generation fails, check your credit balance, page access settings, and quota limits.

If the claim code button is grayed out or generation fails, check your credit balance, page access settings, and quota limits.

Who it's for

  • Hosts creating password-gated previews for clients or internal reviews.
  • Users on any plan who see "unable to generate" errors.
  • Account admins managing public works and claim code distribution.

Steps

  1. Open the page in History and confirm it is set to require a claim code. If the toggle is off, enable it (Require a Claim Code Before Visitors Can Claim a Public Work).
  2. Check your claim code credit balance. If it shows zero, you must add credits via a pack or wait for your monthly reset (Claim-code credits: lifetime, monthly, and packs).
  3. Verify the page is listed on your public page. Unlisted works cannot generate codes (Add a Hosted Page to Your Public Page).
  4. Ensure you have free storage quota. A full quota blocks new codes (Free up HTMLPUT storage or upgrade when your quota is full).
  5. If you recently paid, confirm the plan includes claim codes and that your payment finished (After You Pay: Quota, History, and What Changes Next).

Gotchas

  • Claim codes are single-use and expire after 30 days; reused codes will fail.
  • A page must be public or password-gated; draft-only pages cannot generate codes.
  • If your account is suspended or the page is banned, generation is disabled (Understand Page Bans and Violation Scores).
