Visitors see a password gate but you expected a public page

Fix accidental password protection, wrong links, or stale browser state.

Who it's for

  • Hosts whose testers report a password form on a "public" demo
  • Users who toggled password protect and forgot to turn it off
  • Anyone debugging share links in a private browser window

Steps

  1. Confirm access — In History, check whether the row shows a lock (password) or open lock (public).
  2. Edit the page — For paste pages, open Edit, disable Password protect, save, and retry the link.
  3. Use the right link — Copy the link again from History; avoid old URLs from chat logs.
  4. Test privately — Open an incognito window so an old unlock cookie does not hide the gate.
  5. Tell visitors the password — If protection is intentional, share the visitor password separately.
  6. Still stuck? — Read Understand your share link for public vs password behavior.

Gotchas

  • Visitor passwords are not your HTMLPUT login password.
  • Some browsers cache redirects; hard-refresh after you change access.
  • Banned pages show a block screen, not the normal password gate.
